Risky Business: An Investigation of the Treatment and Management of Chronic Self-Injury Among Federally Sentenced Women - Final Report

Over this 10 year period, the number of self-injury incidents by women inmates increased from 42 incidents in FY 2003-2004 to 323 incidences in 2012-2013. The number of incidents of self-injury by federally sentenced women inmates dramatically increases after fiscal year 2008-2009, more than tripling the number of incidents from the previous year. Over the same 10 year period, the number of inmates involved in self-injury incidents more than triples from 11 inmates in fiscal year 2003-2004 to 37 inmates in fiscal year 2012-2013. In fiscal year 2012-2013, 37 federally sentenced women inmates were responsible for 323 incidents of self-injury.
