New Look for Office of the Correctional Investigator’s Website

For Immediate Release

Ottawa, (April 19, 2013) - Today, the Correctional Investigator of Canada, Mr. Howard Sapers, announced the completion of the Office’s website reorganization and content update project.

In launching the revamped website, the Correctional Investigator stated: “We have made our website more user-friendly and accessible by adding new features and updated content. The new design will help visitors quickly find what they are looking for. Last year, the Office recorded over one million visits to our website. It is clear to me that Canadians are interested in accessing information regarding the federal correctional system. I trust visitors will find our newly designed website relevant, informative and engaging.”

With respect to upgrades, the Homepage has been redesigned to connect visitors to the Office’s most recent content and postings. A new ‘flipper’ feature rotates through recent reports and media stories while a revamped ‘What's New’ section contains news releases, reports and statements by the Correctional Investigator. On the right column of the Homepage visitors can access links to key public reporting priorities of the Office:

  1. Access to physical and mental health care.
  2. Preventing deaths in custody
  3. Conditions of confinement
  4. Aboriginal corrections
  5. Access to programs
  6. Federally sentenced women

The website update and redesign project fulfills an important public awareness function consistent with the Office’s oversight mandate and the Government of Canada’s commitment to Web usability format and standards. You are invited to point your web browser to and check out “what's new” at the Office of the Correctional Investigator.
