Self-Injurious Incidents Involving Women and Aboriginal Offenders

A line graph depicting the number of self-injurious incidents involving women and Aboriginal offenders in federal custody. These two sub-populations have been identified as being particularly ‘at risk’ to engage in self-injurious behaviours in the prison setting. While the number of self-injurious incidents by Aboriginal offenders experiences larger increases over this period, the overall trends indicate that the number of self-injurious incidents by both groups has increased, with some yearly variance, over a 10 year period (from FY 2003-2004 to 2012-2013.) The most dramatic increases for both groups occurs after fiscal year 2008-2009.
